Ohana Means Family…

ohana

You probably already know this quote is from the Disney flick Lilo & Stitch, which we’ve seen maybe half a dozen times (An alien koala playing Elvis songs? Come on, what’s not to love?!).  It wasn’t until we caught this graphic on Adoption.net’s facebook page that we thought about this quote from the movie in terms of adoption, specifically open adoption.  It’s what we’re hoping for – and we want to make sure no one gets left behind in our new family.

The Hawaiian term ‘ohana is pretty interesting–outside of the film, I was not familiar with it, but I read a bit more about it online, and found what seems like a good explanation here.

And of course, now that I’ve brought it up, you have to watch one of *A*’s favorite parts (she’s the Elvis fan):

  1. I had word art with “Ohana means family” in our adoption profile book at one point. It might have been in all of the iterations, actually. I really love it. 🙂
